Beethoven — VII Major Purgatory

On the staircase of the Seventh Major Purgatory appeared Beethoven, not as a penitent, but as a colossal judge of storms. He raised two watering cans— " did he feel they were iron chalices? " —ready to pour his tamed fury upon the world.
His gaze burned with the obstinacy that has always accompanied those who refuse to submit to silence. His gestures were incomplete, like a contained storm; every muscle in his face howled the heavy, adverse wind. It was pure lament, and yet he was still in love with people. Again I heard his thought: " Who do I have to clean ? " [...]
[...] the dialectic of the creator was revealed once again: nothing is fully illuminated because every note has a second intention; desire versus the norm and rage versus the light... [...] And yet, one feels that the master does not fight against the darkness, but rather manages it: he distributes gravity, prunes the silence, orders the clamor before it explodes.
A vision that remains either when one looks away, or when the victor believes that the master is still raising his strange chalices after the painting has been left behind.
